The police investigation began after United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin became suspicious
The chief of a First Nation community on Manitoulin Island faces charges of criminal breach of trust, criminal harassment and intimidation of a justice system participant.
In October 2016, the United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin contacted police to look into alleged criminality.
The Sudbury-Manitoulin detachment of the OPP began an investigation which wrapped up this week with the arrest of a 60-year old woman.
Police say she is the Chief of Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation, near Little Current, Ont.
She is scheduled to appear in court in Gore Bay on July 25.
